NAL's -MTP watchdog timer option was developed under contract from Raytheon, probably for use in their Antarctic program, to insure the tranceiver stays registered with the satellites. Richard Vassar, rjv _at_ ak.net, uses this option with his units connected to web cams as well. It is believed that tranceivers that only receive calls end up being dropped by the network after some amount of time. This option monitors its network registration and effectively reboots the transceiver should registration be lost.

When I last spoke with NAL (circa Feb 2006) this option was not available with tranceiver units that carried GPS receivers; there is not enough room for both circuits.
