Increasinly laptops and desktop computers are designed without RS-232 (serial) ports. Those wishing to connect their Iridium ISUs to a computer require a peripheral RC-232 adapter, either through a PCMCIA card (for laptops) or USB port. Iridium's technical advisory, "Options for connecting USB Computers to an ISU," lists several such perierals that have been tested for use in this case. It lists the devices and gives links to their manufacturers.
