Constraints on the physiology and growth of trees at the latitudinal treeline: integration of experimental and gradient approaches.
"Treeline positions have important implications for surface energy budgets, atmospheric circulation and trace gas exchange in high-latitude landscapes. The central goal of this project is to improve our understanding of the controls on three growth at the latitudinal treeline in northern Alaska." Dr. Patrick SullivanDepartment of Biological Sciences

Dr. Sullivan, with Bjartmar Sveinbjornsson, University of Alaska, Anchorage, and Dan Binkley, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, undertake this three year research project studying soil moisture and nitrogen content implications on growth in treeline environments. Their sutdy is located along the Agashashok River in the Noatak National Reserve in northwestern Alaska 95 km Northeast of Katzebue, AK.
